Somewhere in Kota Gede, Yogyakarta, there is a street sporting the name of ‘ABRI Masuk Desa’ or, literally, ‘the Army Comes to the Village’—referring to a social responsibility program by the Indonesian army to come to the villages and help the people there. It is one of the many streets that the army has built in the ‘ABRI Masuk Desa’ program during the New Order era. This 1980’s development program had also touched Yogyakarta and, in the early nineties, its outskirts—including Kota Gede. Rosa Panggabean | September 2009

The fence does not deter food vendors selling their wares to the station patrons from outside the Cawang Station, South Jakarta. Several fence irons were cut down and a board is installed, serving as a table, enabling the station patrons to enjoy food from these outer stalls. Ardi Yunanto | September 2009
