December 2009

Since Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the Menteng Park, Central Jakarta, a sculpture of young Obama was unveiled by the mayor of Central Jakarta. Dedicated to inspire Indonesian children, the sculpture in fact precisely presents some "tortured logic", insinuating that the Indonesian education is able to bring forth a president of the United States. The sculpture faces  the humble Persija monument, and its presence seems to scoff at the history of the Menteng Park, which was originally the Persija Stadium. This is a permanent display of the "psychotic naivete" of a government with inferiority-complex. Ardi Yunanto | Desember 2009

Taking a glimpse on the past. A picture of Bandung in the past is installed on one of the pillars of the Pasupati overpass. It is part of  series of activities under the title of “Kala Bandung”, held by Mahanagari in collaboration with Bandung Creative City Forum (BCCF) during the Helarfest event. The installation of a picture of Bandung of the past is expected to help the public know their city better, by recognizing its visual traces from the past and comparing them with the city’s current conditions.
