Cycle = motor? In many places in Indonesia, the word “sepeda” (cycle) often refers to motorcycle, as opposed to bicycle. Maybe this linguistic logic could be blamed for this lawless deed captured in Yogyakarta (16/03). Neither straightforward icon, or even the popular local bicycle brand logo acting as a sponsor, could guard the guilty party from using a slice of public space intended for cyclists. Village idiocy, survival of the fittest, is still carried onto civil society dubbed as city. Danu Primanto | July 2011
