Love your children. The welcome signage on Bukittinggi Payakumbuh main road, Baso sub-district, Agam regency, West Sumatera (22/11/10), is written with a slogan that might reflect the local government's reaction towards the rising number of maternal violence cases (Kecamatan Sayang Ibu—The Sub-district of Maternal Love). The cases start from getting rid of the fetus when the first symptoms of pregnancy arise, viciously murdering the baby, up to leaving a new born child. Every mother loves her child. Would this concern be better off through other ways, a realistic effort in lowering the poverty rate, for instance? Aren't these cases results, instead of causes? Ulfia Rahmi | August 2011
