Only in Indonesia. Post-structuralist thinkers, like Barthes and Derrida, argued that there is no authenticity. In Jakarta, we only need to get into one of the means of public transportation of the city, and be visually sensitive to prove this argument. A sticker, advertising alternative healing method, was seen on Mikrolet 61, Pasar Minggu - Cinere line, South Jakarta (11/06). It blurred cultural, identity, and commodity value boundaries simultaneously. The product being offered was from “India, China, Java, and the Middle East (Islamic way)”. Is it possible for someone to be called Ki Dloif Al Fakir, and also be a third generation Grand Master Choa Kok Da of Shaolin at the same time? It is, apparently. But only in Indonesia.
