Schizophrenic Propaganda. In Senayan, South Jakarta (26/05), a telecommunication product launch could be seen using the face of Marshanda, a famous person in Indonesia, with a tagline “2 Sisi Marshanda” (2 Sides of Marshanda). It is actually a relief to see an equal comparison between hijab and gown, in their capacity as costumes, as opposed to signifiers of one's identity and piety—both as alternatives, instead of obligation. This double-identity could hopefully not be owned exclusively by a celebrity in the name of product endorsement, but further turn into alternative forms of flexible identity available for women, and socially acceptable for the public. Lisabona Rahman | June 2011
