The sin of communication science. Language is a tool that can be reshaped to blur meaning. This warning signage in Cempaka Putih, East Jakarta (05/11), is the latest example. By stating banjir (flood) as mere “genangan” (puddle), we can be sure that our bureaucrats are indeed delusional. To put it short, Jakarta has never experienced flood, we only drown in a “puddle” that swells up every year. Misguided use of communication science? Muhamad Heychael | November 2011
